Understanding Planetary Dominance Using Zodiac Trails

Hey yall! Wanted to share with you guys today a little hack I and other astrologers use in order to narrow down dominance/ to better understand the strength of a placement or energy within a chart.

Because houses align with planets and zodiac signs (and vice versa), when reading charts you might pick up on themes based on echoing energies in a chart. Those “echoing energies” are most likely the dominate energy in your chart.

David Shad’s birth chart

In this example, I’m using David Shad from Are You The One season 6 because i was triggered into action after everyone continuously called him a robot and talked about how he didnt have any emotions, just seemed full of himself but “deep down they knew he had a heart”

With zodiac trails, the goal is to define the energy that loops into each other through mutual reception or just synonymous energy

For example:

By looking at his chart (no birth time) He’s a Sag Sun. Starting with his Sag sun, the ruler of it (Jupiter) is in Libra.

Jupiter ≠ Libra, so we look to the ruler of Libra which is Venus. Venus is in Capricorn

Venus ≠ Capricorn, so we look to the ruler of Capricorn, which is Saturn. Saturn is in Aquarius.

Saturn is at home in Aquarius, so through this zodiac trail we can see that Saturn would play a strong part in how he comes off, which is further confirmed by the Moon, Venus, Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn which are all ruled by Saturn.

Even moreso, his actions aka Mars is in Cancer, which rules the moon so again we are brought back to his actions relating to the moon in Capricorn, which reflects the Saturn in Aquarius that ultimately dominates his energy.

On top of that, we have Uranus (aquarius’ modern ruler) conjunct his moon, venus, and neptune. All of this energy loops back to the Saturn in Aquarius. Aquarius is the Robot lol

Without even using the chart ruler (since we didnt have a birth time— aka no house cusps to work with), it is still rather obvious how this energy manifests because of the themes and patterns that echo throughout the chart.

I should add that you dont necessarily have to end in a “home” placement. Sometimes the energy will just keep looping with no exalted position.

The zodiac trail also shows intergration. Meaning if you have a lot of energy that loop together (despite having an exalted position or not) it shows the energy has found a way to work with itself in more covert ways that can compliment the dominating energies

For example, Someone with an leo sun, Aries moon, cancer mercury, cancer venus and virgo mars. Leo = sun so thats a dominate theme already.

Aries ≠ moon, so we look at Mars which rules aries. Mars is in Virgo

Virgo ≠ Mars, so we look at Mercury which rules virgo. Mercury is in Cancer

Cancer ≠ Mercury, so we are taken back to the moon.

Which, through this zodiac trail we already see the interconnected-ness between the energies of moon, mars and mercury. Meaning these energies together create a strong conjoined energy which this person would act in. (overthinking which might lead to emotional actions )

Hope this helps xx lmk if you have questions!
